Real problem not sciatica!

It's two different probs with the nerve pains! Compressed disk pressing on nerve and bone spur pressing on another nerve! At least the probs have been slolved. Next step is physical therapy and then probably surgery in the fall!

I have completed all apron swap obligations and now I am not going to join another until I have healed! I cut a pattern from a vintage apron and it is so stinking cute I can't wait to make them for presents!

It's time for a summer move!

We are moving back into the large classroom! I am soooo excited to have room to move about! Husband is creating a false ceiling to capture the cool and brace against the heat of the summer sun. Of course then next winter we will harness the warmth! We are in a very old building that was a large commercial laundry in the thirties. No ceiling just volumous open room. This offered no protection from the 85* summers nor the teens in the winter. Ahhh wonderful gains in my classrooom life!

We are having a wonderful teacher visit us next month! Linda Ballard has been teaching quilting, hosting cruises for many years. She has exciting fun and chocolate filled classes and we are very proud to be hosting this event.

While at the store working my booty off today, I received a phone call informing me that I won a raffle quilt! Yahoooo! This was from one of the local churches and it will be a wonderful surprise when it is delivered tomorrow! I have no clue what it looks like!

I am going to take my wonderful "swap" aprons to the store and hang them in the window as if on a clothes line! Won't that be cute!

Here is a photo of the raffle quilt, this is actually the layout, my students and I made for the "Women's Crisis Center." It is paper pieced and made from Batiks! The woman that won it is a volunteer for the center that lost a leg in a auto crash rescuing a rape victim...she deserved this blessing of the quilt!

My partner's apron is on the back of a slow mule from southern Oregon. I have the postal confirmation on the kitchen counter. Let's face it I am tired tonight! I do not want to go and fetch it! The photos are on my Blackberry and I have not a clue how to download them...Oh well that's life. It is very cute and I hope my partner likes it! I will try tomorrow to download the photos.

Can you hear that sound?...It's my grandma chair calling me..."Fudgie...come in here and set your tushie down on my comfy lap." Here I come chair!

I think they would be great for bazaars!

I finished a custom apron this weekend and also finally watched "New Moon." I have the third book in the series and I am toying with the idea of waiting until the film is out before I begin reading it. I was disappointed this time by reading the book first.

Rain is coming and I am happy! Last weekend my husband extended the yard for the dogs and he sowed more grass seed in the new space. We need rain for more reasons than the seed!

Did you notice the new link on the left? See the Rit Dye! Check it out for some great instructions on dyeing your own fabric. We are using our new found skills and making "gel glue resist" batiks. Three of my students were "forced" to do this last weekend and now we are waiting for a nice warm day to do some "painting with dye." This will go well and then we will have a class at the store and have more fun!

My goal this weekend is to write my blog!
Who knew that a blog would be like an "apron strings" child.
Nagging at my mind daily.
Now that I have mentioned "apron"
...that's another item on the list.
It is actually number one on the list.
I have cut the vintage tablecloth blindly and miraculously
(without notice by me) the quiet pattern woven
into the fabric is gloriously in the front of the apron!
Beautifully done by chance. I can not wait
to finish the apron this weekend. I asked my
partner to wait for me before she posted

I finally received my "Christmas" apron from the last swap I was in! All I can say is "holy mackerel" makes me want to stop swapping. Late is late but sometimes late is very discouraging for the recipient. It's also very hard to say "thanks." If it was due to illness or hardship that would entirely be forgivable and understanding.

That being said, I do have a box of goodies to send to a wonderful winner! Oh Shawnee! We need you to choose a winner from our Christmas swap. It is a great prize for all the sewists we have here in the group!

I have been making iphone cases! They are too cute for words...little zippers for a "stash" (that's $$$$, not fabric), and made totally in the embroidery hoop! You can just put your license, $$$$ and phone and be hands free to go "hunting" for goodies!

We are in for excitement today! Husband is making homemade tortillas...look out Gordon Ramsey!

Happy 2010 everyone! I can't wait to tell someone it's "twenty-ten." Sounds so signifigant, doesn't it?

It's a foggy, cloudy morning and all the plantlife is covered in "Hoar's" frost. My husband is frantic with queries of "why is it called that?" Heck, I still haven't looked it up...I just like saying it! We are not having a wintery winter here in the northwest...it's so stinking slushy it's horrible to drive in. The poor doggies have really cold, wet feet and in the morning it looks like a skating rink in the backyard...which is really the frontyard.

This month we have some wonderful classes starting at the store! It will be exciting this year because I am going to be the top saleswoman for pushing classes! Hope I get a raise!

Hey remember the "stinky" daughter and the the houseguest (Mr. Skunkoo). Well, he has finally found someone else to smell up. He moved out by himself after $$$$ and traps set, only to catch the neighbors dog. The landlordess hired two different trappers and that was to no avail. The last "mountain man" at least was the best $$$$$ spent. He stuck his head under the house, used a high-powered light and saw no animal or carcass! Oh yes, the landlordess gave her a months rent free! That was very nice of her! We were going to save the carcass, if it was dead, and put it under her porch to share. Now we can't do that.

How does a sixty-six year young get a stinking zit!? I think from eating too many oatmeal cookies. Wrinkles, brown spots, thinning eyebrows and now a red zit. Oh and not to forget scars from sun cancer removals...but...it's better than covered in dirt!

Cold Sunday Morning!

Yes, it is cold this morning! 20* Anyone want to take a
lap naked? My husband would do anything sans clothing!
He just likes to "shock" anyone's system.
At this age it certainly would. hee hee

My oldest daughter lives here in the "wild" northwest
15 minutes from us. We drive her to town so that
she can shop for her monthly staples. Yesterday
we drove up, honked the horn, she then happily
hopped into the truck and brought with her a
horrific odor! SKUNK ! She has a skunk living
under her home! Yee gads...we made her take off
her outer-wear and dump it in the shell of the truck.
Minutes down the road the windows went down and
husband stopped the truck for me to catch some
fresh air and avoid puking! Now...she could not smell
it! People in Walmart were avoiding her and looking
at her strangely. She stopped by her favorite second
hand store and the shop worker told her that they have
a free shower and change of clothing for the homeless
women at the Mission next door. I was on the floor
laughing! I told her when she moved up here to this
small community she could not keep dressing like a
"hooker." Hooker to homeless in one year!

Why am I not blogging? What am I going to write about? These are the triggering questions running through my brain. Whoa wait a tiny minute there oh vegetative brain! The fires are starting to burn through the copious fog.

Let me begin with a bout of "some kinda" nondescript flu. By nondescript, I mean it did not have a bunch of letters and numbers describing it. Just lots of coughing. Now when I say coughing I mean pee your panties and blow a gasket. Then there was a strained lower back muscle. I was in the K-rapper one could say without hesitation!
I suppose you were wondering if I coughed in the crook of my arm so as not to spread the hacking virus. I tried, I did give it to my wonderful friend and she got to cough for two weeks
too.

Now I have obligations to fullfill! Thank goodness there is only one apron to swap!

I have had a very interesting 10 days. Well some of those days were interesting and exciting the rest were K-rapp! My good friend and I went to Portland to the Quilting Expo with Lynette Jennings as the featured guest artist. It is about a six hour drive from our homes. I had a dry hacking cough the entire way. We chalked it up to the wildfires in our area. The smoke from these fires had blown eastward and we had been breathing it for days. That evening we went to Jenning's lecture. She had a prize for the person closest to "her" birthday. I won! A quilt top with the backing and binding. I am to put it together. That was very nice and I showed my appreciation by exposing all at the event to some sorta virus. I extended my hand to Jennings as an act of thanks and she took it! Whoa if she is sick now I am in deep K-rapp! You know my "dear friend" that I shared a room and car with for three days...Yep she got it! The good thing I can say is...It's not the dreaded h1n1...no fever, no throwing up, no trips to the toilet! Just a great ordinary virus. By the way...I hope I still have a good friend!

Out of the baskets northwesterners!
It's cold this morning!
31* Shiver, shiver! I love it!

The stinkin jackrabbits are trying to "butcher"
my lilacs and the rest of the wildflowers in the yard.
I am sitting here in the house and running outside to "shoo"
them away from their breakfast. Last year they did the
same thing early on in summer and my baby lilacs were
stubs. This year everything was safe until I cruised the
yard yesterday and noticed my plants were someone's
feast. Today I will get out the "chicken wire."

As it goes...I now have all the

fabric in the brick and mortar store.
Now can we have another "Lucy swap"

the fabric...LOL
That would be nice...ummmm maybe a

My wonderful grandchildren

for my foot on the pedal.
Each time I pass them I hear

I have tried to heed their call. I even sat
down and rethreaded the enticing machine,
put on the buttonhole attachment,
placed my shaking foot on the pedal,
felt the electric power surge up my ankle...
"Fudgie!" was the call that broke the
promising spell! Once again I fell short
and left my pulsating machine for the
beckoning request of grandchildren.
After all they are just tooo stinkin
important are they not?

Sunday...Good Day For Sewing With Friends!

Happy day...a day for meself! I am sewing with friends at the store all day.
Did the same thing yesterday...although the brain was in slow-mo ALL DAY.
The brain has been fed breakfast and a handful of pills, so it will be working today.
We hope...LOL!

Starting on my apron for the "Lucy Swap" today! That will be exciting!

BTW...the photo below..."Now what could that be?"
is a clip of the apron for the "Mamma Mia Swap!"
I will plop it in the mail at the
"slow mules" stop on Monday morn.
Then, post a photo...you will love it!

Oh yes...my husband is in the car today for a
twelve hour car ride with his MOM!
He is taking her home. Plop plop, fizz, fizz,

He has finally accepted the fact, his mom is a
pain in the... you figure that one out!
Senility has found a vacancy and parked
his RV for a nice vacation.
The problem is, her family is going to be
the hostess and victims too! Alas...I am free again!

Could be, I may just box that one up and resend it. MMMMMM that would be okay would it not? Oh my goodness my camera just ran out of juice...I was going to send a photo of the wonderfully stitched, inviting red and cool turquoise delight that looks soooo great on me! All my stitching students are cheering me on to have a "give-away" here at the store so that they might have a chance! But Alas...it does look reaaaallly good on me!

Mr and Mrs Quail have just sped through the backyard! The doggies are sound asleep under my desk...errrr wrapped around the feet of my chair! Any sudden move by meself could result in a chirpy scream and boisterous howling. Let's all be very very quiet! The madness of the high speed birds leads one to think "mmmm are they escaping the law?" You know...Natures law!

What did you do today? I visited the post office and sent off a nice group of fabrics to Angelic. She was the winner over at Yarni Gras Mamma Mia swap. I was happy to share some of the stores cool "cherry" fabric as a gift to the swap. I hope you enjoy it Angelic!

Blue clear skies, crisp green trees...

what a wonderful day to finish up a porch!

And...that's just what he is doing!

The wonderful husband!

I was making the DH some creamy

tuna-macaroni salad,

he does love the stuff, tossing the empty tuna cans

in the garbage can under the sink and pulled off

another great "hey did you know I am a clutz" stunt.

I used the tuna lid to slice diagonally through the

incision that the ortho doc placed in my palm

just last week! After much dancing and screaming

it was determined that I did

not need more stitches.

I have been confined to the

sitting position by my DH.

So, here I am waiting for cocktail hour!

mmmm I think there is some sorta warning

on the vicodin label about alcohol and pain killers.

I will let you know how that goes...

Mama Mia Apron Swap!

I have joined new apron swap!

Yesterday I finally watched "Mama Mia!"

I was enticed to join a swap with

the same name and became mezmerized

with the fabrics and colors.

I was hooked to join after the first five minutes.

Creativity abounded and spilled over in my head.

I decided to have a Margarita on the rocks...

Yummy for me...before dinner.
THEN chose to join my husband with a "hotta dawg" too!

What a mistake!
Put the luscious drink in the freezer cuzz my tummy started to revolt!
Now my Saturday evening is a bummer.

Oh well...tomorrow is Sunday.
And, the Margarita will be ready.

On the left is the "Fiesta Apron Swap" I made for my swap partner Kathy. She sent me a very nice "thank-you" and now I can put it on my blog ! I had a great time choosing the great fiesta colors!

This one on the right was for the Booming Apron swap. The theme was..."What March Means To Me" Now that I live in the Pacific Northwest, I need to re-evaluate "March." Southern California means bright flowers, trees budding, planting new annuals all that gardening stuff! Not up here in Oregon! Don't get me wrong...I love it here and wouldn't change it! March here means snow, freezing temperatures and no planting! Next time I will have to send an apron made from wool!

Next I would like to share the aprons made by one of my students Sandy! She has become quite the sewist! I am very proud to show her handi-work on my blog. Sandy has overcome obstacles that her family should be very proud of and her creativity is now being exposed. She made her daughter and granddaughters aprons to match. Baby has a matching bib! " Way to go Sandra!" She hates me to call her Sandra, let's keep it a secret! Shhhhhhh!

How should I know? I went to work today excited to see the Moda rep and all her new stuff! Wrooonnnng...I was only a week too early...wake up Betty it's next Thursday!

Why did it rain today and now I keep thinking I should go out and

turn the sprinklers on, no it may rain some more!

Yesterday the husband spread grass seed over the bare patches in the yard. Now when I say "bare patches" I should be saying LARGE open areas! So...what is happening today? It is snowing! It has been dropping the white stuff since waking at six. There was a white covering already then! For goodness sake he took my snow tires off the car last weekend. Guess that was the clue!

My desktop computer sorta, kinda crashed! It would do nada! Husband spent hours on it and finally discovered the google worktab had locked up the internnet access! Oh my gosh...what a pain in the butt! I did lose all my "favorites." What a disappointment!

For goodness sake...where have I been? What do I say after being gone for sooo long?
No vacation for me...so what did I do? Mend hands and fingers, not finished with that task. Entertain youngest daughter, that has now found her own little duplex! Thank you God! Almost caught up on the apron swaps I have committed to. BTW the aprons I have received have been wonderful. Lesson I have learned (I hope) is to not join too many swaps! And, the hands and fingers are here to stay. If that is my price for life I will accept it! I still have to make a "rag doll" and I will be late for that too! This has become very embarrassing! Oh well, another humbling lesson to be learned.

A beautiful day here in the northwest! Blue skies, white clouds and a slight breeze! That's my "Wally the weatherman" rendition. I will sew a vintage apron today at the store while a wonderful teacher teaches the beginning sewing class! Have to make a pattern for our next quilt we will be making too. Very easy one! They will cry if it's too complicated. Or even slightly complicated. Ha Ha Wait till I pull the next "Mystery Quilt."

My hand and fingers are much better. The move to the new location for the store is under control! I have finished one apron...it will be mailed tomorrow to my swap partner...Luuuuucyyyy! I made fat quarter prizes and mailed them to the winners. My partner's apron for the "Booming Apron March (yes I know it's April) Swap" will be finished tomorrow! Yippee! I am on a productive roll. Now let's just keep it going.

I had a wonderful time in church this morning celebrating Easter! Oh my heavens the priest at the Catholic church in our wee town is wonderful! He does not stay up in the pulpit he "gets down" in the peanut gallery with the members. I think I will be going again...

I have a turkey in the roaster and the aroma is starting to get the nose going! Yummmy. Is it time to eat...

Remembrance of an apron.

My mama and I lived with my grandparents until I was nine.
We were on the outskirts of poor. Poor being no indoor plumbing,
no hot water from a faucet. Baths in a shiny galvanized
wash tub once a week. I got to go first.
Others, Tootie (my mom), mama (grandma) and grandpa followed;
with added hot water from a tea kettle
boiling on the wood stove.

My grandma always wore a "house-dress."
When we went to town it was a "good" dress.
There were no pants in her small closet.
Now my grandma always wore the correct undergarment.
Going to town meant pulling that rubbery thing up on
her already petite hips and flat tummy. Wearing garters on it that
held up her stockings.
It seemed as though she had lots of
unnecessary stuff on her body
when we went to pay the bills.

She would go out to our vegetable garden in her
nondescript house-dress, apron, cotton stockings
pulled up over her knees,
kept in place by twisting and rolling
the tops down over themselves.
I would follow behind her
hoping to "pull up" something.
Hoping it would be food items.
She always had a small paring knife
in one apron pocket
and a snot rag in another.
If no hankie, she would use her apron at will
for my nose, face, or any other selected part
of my body that needed touching up.

Now that I have set the scene...here is the plot!
Grandma didn't have the action of
squatting or kneeling on the ground
for gathering her veggies.
She would just bend at the waist, cut,
pull or rip those fresh food items
from the black soil and shove them
into her gathered apron skirt.
I followed behind...
do you see...behind her!
My view of grandma bent at the waist was unforgettable.
She had her muck boots pulled on over her cotton stockings,
that were rolled and twisted. Did I mention
that those stockings sometimes were
"in small heaps around her ankles?"
Because of the bent-at-the-waist position,
her house-dress was hiked up above her hidden asset!
And my view was greatly enhanced by the
close proximity of the gathering and helping.
I always remember thinking that
she should of worn that apron backwards.
I could of used it for harvesting small items
she let me help with and spared me finding
out she was the woman that gave birth to the phrase...

Okay, I am suppose to do the Honesty is the best Policy thingy so here goes!

1. I love my family more than puppies breath and newborn babes necks!
2. I have three girls and one boy, HE is my favorite and everyone knows...
he is the favorite sibling of his sisters too!
3. You want me for a friend! Just do not ever lie to me...you do it's over!
4. I missed not having a really caring mother...missed it too much.
But I believe it helped make me the woman I now have become...
5. One might think I am not spiritual, I am and I use it daily in all my choices.
6. I do not throw the word LOVE around casually.
If I say "I love you" it's just that plain and simple.
7. I am very proud of my children's father, he is a good daddy!
8. I love my children's stepfather more each day. We both laugh at all
our gross little remarks and actions we both throw out daily! He is the coolest!
9. I can eat a whole white cake with white frosting in two days!
Number 10...I love Jesus and he knows it too!

Now I will send this to my new friends...are you ready to be called friends?

It's the weekend...big deal! Except for those who have a five day work week and live for the weekend...I love everyday and live for each and every day! I hate it when I am not in a good mood! I love frivolity and mayhem...just ask my friends and family!

Do you inform the Lord above that you want to bring all your sewing machines and stash? If not you better start now. Remember...all we need do is ask! He knows I am gonna bring mine. I hope he gives us an allowance to refurbish our stash.

Now here's the query...What do you think the quilt shops will be like in Heaven? I hope he doesn't want a quilt made from polyester I really do not like to sew with poly!

Rita, lovely Rita...the mules picked-up a parcel addressed to you on Friday! Whooo Hoooo Just in time for shamrock day 2010...LOL Well, you will have the rest of the month to celebrate! I am taking my apron you made me to the store to hang it in the newly cleaned window. There in its beauty, all the folks mailing late parcels at the post office can enjoy it. My customers and students too!

It's Monday, seven am, sun still not peeking through, the temp is 10*, husband stomping through the house, profanities spewing like gas from a dairy intolerant cheese eating dog...our instant on hot water device is on...duh...vacation that is! I offered to heat water on the stove and he spewed "I don't give a du*k (ahhh that's not the correct spelling, you get it though...don't you?)!" I have all the faith that the famous heater WILL offer up the hot water in about an hour when I need it. Picture my hands clapped together, eyes gazing towards heaven.

Someone asked me if this is a once a week blog...my answer, "how the heck do I know? Did Bronte have a set schedule? Does the moon set at a precise time of day? " Can one plan anything around me...don't answer that one!

Isn't it the bomb? One problem...My pot-o-gold is empty. Now I don't know about you, but me? I think it would of been nice if the leprecaun (how do you spell that?) would of filled it up. I would of shared with Rita, lovely Rita my apron maker. Thank you Rita!

Now for the confession I have to make so that you will like Rita more than me! I was sick...I told all of you...my apron I am making for Rita will be late! Rita knows this cause I already told her! Status of apron...Only the ties have to be sewn on and a special treat for the apron too!

I am blessed that I have discovered the way to climb over the challenges I have been given in this life. It seems as though I took too long to find the formula. As I write this I know I still have many to deal with. I also know why he has given me these. I have always wanted more on my dinner plate and so...he has done just that. I've had a non-blogging friend ask "who is Edward?" He is the prime, delicious new vampire on the block, from the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer! This series is aimed for the young teen. My Emma is waiting for the book. I haven't finished the first book yet. My days and nights are too filled! The one thing I do miss sooo much is reading. This has to be an addendum to my time filled days that I simply have to put back into my life. It's just too easy to put those comfy jammies on and flop in that big chair in front of the TV and turn on "House" and all the other "have to see" dramas. I will buy that light for the side table by my bed and sip from my silver spoon filled with wisdom. The same spoon that I feed my children with. This time I will turn it on myself.

The slow mules have been busy this week delivering packages to me. I received my apron from my swap partner Joey and it is a ruffled delight. Included in the package were two Valentine potholders and BUTTONS...I love buttons! Thanks Joey!

Box number two from Kentucky was from the Heartstrings Embroidery swap. It held prim items, a needle holder, two small mats, and a framed heart. Thanks swap partner...I can't read her name!

Getting to Know You Questions for the Spring Swap

We start painting and cleaning the new building, where we are moving our store, Saturday. Whoa let me correct some of that last statement! I am teaching this Saturday until two pm and my friends and my husband are doing the hard work. They are using the brawn and I the brains... Now the funny part is my husband is gonna blow a gasket when he sees the work he will be involved with... Aunt Pitty! Should I wear my leather to entice him to work hard? hee hee hee I do wish Julie's "bob the builder" was here to help him. My husband is very able to do the improvements, that's not the case, there is lots to do! The end result will be wonderful! My classroom will be 700 sq. feet! YaaaaaHOOOOOOOOO!

I am posting the "Prim apron" I made for a swap. I think it's cute! But of course I think all of them are.

Today I am finishing my last Valentine swap and off it goes with the slow mules at the post office to Alabama. This apron is very primitive (the swap was from a prim embroidery site, Heart Strings Embroidery). I used my embroidery machine for some of the embellishments. I will post a photo later.

My secret swap partner from the "Sassy Flirty" swap received her apron and she "loves" it! Now that made me feel good! Read her comments she sent in the February 1st. message. In the same swap they are having a drawing for the participants and the winner receives a "blog design." Now since I am a newbie I would really like that one.
